On July 18th, 2008, Nitto 1320 Legends, a free online drag racing game by Cie Studios, staged the first ever NOS Powershot 24 Hour Endurance Challenge. Borrowing a page from the offline drag racing circuit, each tournament featured a qualifying session drawing thousands of virtual racers competing for a spot in the top 32 ladder. The top 32 racers moved on to compete against one another in a bracket-style tournament until there was a sole winner standing at the top of the virtual podium. Qualifying for each tournament gave each virtual racer 1 point, while winning a round earned 3 points and winning an entire tournament earned 5. The NOS 24 Hour Endurance Challenge alternated, hour by hour, between bracket and H2H racing with different vehicle requirements for each tournament. This opened up an extremely competitive and fair playing field for the 430,000+ registered users of Nitto 1320 Legends. The only catch was that each virtual racer was only allowed to compete in 8 of the 24 tournaments to allow participation from as many Nitto 1320 Legends gamers as possible.
The virtual racer with the most points after the 24 hours was crowned the champion of the NOS Powershot 24 Hour Endurance Challenge and won the prize of a one-of-a-kind virtual car – and instant fame across both online and offline auto enthusiast media. The NOS Powershot trophy car is a customized Scion tC which – if driven correctly - will be the fastest car in Nitto 1320 Legends for the next 60 days.
As the competitors battled in the early hours of the tournament, it was clear that the winner of the NOS Powershot 24 Hour Endurance Challenge wouldn’t be chosen until the final race. Throughout the 24 hours, 3-5 points would separate the first, second and third place racers as Nitto 1320 Legends provided a real time statistics page showing all the racers’ points, tournaments ran, and how many points needed for first place. By the 24th and final race, a mere 2 points separated first place leader, oSPrems, from Ohio, second place racer, James from New Jersey, and third place racer - and eventual champion - 7racer from Jamaica. 7racer would have to advance all the way to the semi-finals of the final bracket tournament to claim the NOS Powershot championship. oSPrems / Ohio had already competed in his allotted 8 tournaments, so he was forced to watch from the sidelines. James in Jersey was nowhere to be seen – rumor has it the pressure had him locked up at his keyboard…or perhaps asleep from fatigue. So it was all up to 7racer to drive his virtual race car, featuring NOS Powershot logos, to the top of the final bracket challenge – against all remaining players in Nitto 1320 Legends.
In the nail-biting final, 7racer claimed the tournament championship win, and earned praise as one of Nitto 1320 Legends’ best racers ever by winning the final bracket outright and being crowned the first ever NOS Powershot 24 Hour Endurance Challenge Champion. Stayed logged on to
