The Ultimate Hybrid
On the outside this FD RX-7 is just plain stunning. But once you pop the hood it's plain mesmerizing.

Being that this is the very first article that Mr. Siu (Sounds official doesn’t it?) has asked me to write, I figured I better spend hours thinking about what I was gonna say or how I was gonna approach this 1993 RX-7. But with a car like this, the words just came naturally. (I guess you really did get lucky Jason.)

It’s always nice when we get to feature cars pieced together by leaders in the aftermarket community. And this ’93 RX-7, built by Injen Technology’s own Duy Le, only serves to remind us of that fact. The Mazda RX-7 is one of the more sought after cars in the tuning community. When Mazda stopped producing them in the states back in the mid-90s we all wondered if this rotary-powered beast would ever make its return to show rooms in the U.S. Although it never has, you can still find RX-7s for sale if you’re willing to look hard enough.

While most RX-7s feature a rotary engine, Duy Le decided to go a completely different route. This 1993 RX-7 is definitely in a league all of its own. The “Ultimate Hybrid” was the name given to this 1993 Mazda RX-7. And that nickname is probably one of the most fitting nicknames I’ve heard in a long time.

This RX-7 is certain to make people rub their eyes, stare, and take notice. It features an LS1 engine swapped straight from a 2001 Corvette C5. And Duy Le didn’t stop there. In fact, the modifications under the hood are so extensive, that I couldn’t begin to talk about every one of them. Injen Technology Power-Flow Cold Air Intake, Injen Technology SS Dual Independent Exhaust System, CompCams 241/241, MSD Ignition Wires with NGK Platinum Plugs, and JTR Long Tube Headers are just some of the performance items that Duy has either added or changed out on this RX-7. It would probably take me about three hours to talk about everything Duy has had done. Let’s just say that this RX-7 has undergone a complete transformation.
If the engine swap itself isn’t enough to grab people’s attention, then the Tiger-Eye Metallic paint just might. Done by MOB Works, the paint only helps to make this RX-7 jump off the pages of this online magazine. Being that I’ve never seen Tiger-Eye Metallic paint before, I can say that it helps set this “Ultimate Hybrid” RX-7 apart from the rest of the crowd.

The car’s exterior look is completed by the Panspeed front fascia, FRP wide fenders, and side skirts. The carbon fiber hood and trunk are nice offsets to the Tiger-Eye paint that covers the rest of the car. This RX-7 is rolling on 18” Volk LE28N with BF Goodrich rubber in the front and rear. The TEIN Super Drift Adjustable coilovers help keep this car planted firmly on the road while the B&M Short Throw kit helps get through all 6 gears of the T56 6spd Transmission.

Make sure to take a look at the pictures below, because anything I could possibly type wouldn’t do this car justice.
