Contrasting the 1992 VW Golf we have featured in this issue as well, is a custom 2001 VW Golf sporting a two tone paintjob. The careful detail to all the body work and modifications doesn’t stop there for this car, as the turbocharged motor is way far from stock. Toss in two handfuls of interior goodies with in car electronics and you’ve got a solid feature to read and look over.

Starting off with the motor, the entire long block received an overhauling with the block bored out to 83mm and slugged with 8.75:1 compression Wiseco pistons. The head received a 3 angle and radial valve job and was reassembled to make way for the new custom turbo kit. Powering the newly built motor is a T3 50-trim Master Power turbo. From the turbo out is a 2.5" downpipe and custom stainless steel exhaust system. Boost is handled with a 35mm TiAl wastegate with an open dump tube. Additional fuel is key with the boosted setup to achieve maximum horsepower so a Bosch Boost fuel pressure regulator along with 35lb injectors were thrown into the mix. Some turbo goodies from Forge play a huge role with their twin piston blow off valve and front mount intercooler. All the intake side piping was custom mandrel bent from polished aluminum piping. Handling the tuning side of the new package is a Neuspeed custom Turbo Chip and a Perfect Power STM6 piggy back management system. Controlling both fuel and timing, the STM6 system helps gives the Autometer gauges accurate readings. Raising the boost level is made easier with a Turbo XS boost controller. This VW is set for all heavy volumes of force induced air with the aid of a 3" MAF housing. Getting the power to the ground is a VR6 clutch and flywheel combo.

Back out to the exterior and the eye-catching two tone paint job: black and blazing copper makes for a wicked blend on this VW. With shaved side moldings and a shaved hatch, the car was perfectly smooth for the paint to be laid on. Helping give the Golf a whole new look in life is a full European Rieger R-RX body kit. The stock hood was scraped for a matching Rieger Boser carbon fiber hood. Only other carbon component seen on this Golf is out in the rear with a Eurojet carbon fiber rear spoiler.
Suspension was called upon by none other than Eibach and Bilstein offering a killer combo in ride quality and height. The Eibach pro-kit springs on Bilstein Touring shocks brings this VW level on the 18x8 Flik Justice wheels in a gunmetallic shade. Wrapped with none other than Falken Ziex tires in a 225/40/18 variety, this Golf rolls in style and stops with ease thanks to Brembo cross drilled rotors. Lighting has been enhanced with a series of modifications, including Hella Comet smoked side blinkers and European FK smoked taillights.

As mentioned before, nothing in the interior was skipped over either on this Golf package. A TV screen has been implemented into the steering wheel and reupholstered in suede. 4-point harnesses are draped over leather seats along with a center console trim painted. The Autometer boost gauge rest in a custom a-pillar mount and a custom aluminum digital camera mount shares the fun with everyone. Audio fills the entire cabin with two 12" Blaupunkt subwoofers and a Sony X-Series cd player. Powered by a Crunch amplifier, the subwoofer and amplifier are all enclosed in a custom fiberglass enclosure.

If you ever get a chance to run across Rafael and his 2001 VW Golf GL, make sure to take a closer look at everything that makes this a complete package.
