Drift cars come in all shapes and sizes. While most American contenders get their on what’s cheap and easily available to them, some Japanese aftermarket manufacturers like to stick to their roots. One thing we’ve definitely seen in the Formula D series the past couple of years is the onslaught of true American muscle battling it out against the more nimble, turbocharged cars from Japan. So what better way to fight back against the Mustangs and GTOs of America? JIC Magic decided to import over one of Japan’s finest vehicles, the S15 Silvia. Equipped with the coveted SR20DET motor straight from the factory, JIC Magic broke it down to the fundamentals and prepped the car to contend with the best of what America has to offer.

Wanting to prove a point that turbocharged 4-cylinders can romp with those rowdy V8s while going sideways, JIC had the entire SR20DET motor overhauled with the Tomei catalog. The 2.0L has now been stroked to 2.2L and is fully decked out with Tomei internals all over. Forging a huge power band for the S15 to campaign sideways is an IHI F1 RX6 turbocharger. Completing the rest of the turbo necessities is a TiAL blow off valve and HKS 60mm wastegate. On the hot-side of things is a JIC exhaust manifold that leads out to a JIC Titanium exhaust system. On the cold-side of things is an ARC intercooler and custom intake manifold. Overhauling the transmission is a must for drifting and JIC Magic didn’t skip any steps there. A full Nismo 6-speed transmission along with its LSD and an Exedy clutch has found its new home.

On the exterior, the S15 has received a fine treatment of aesthetic goods thank to Vertex. Their Ridge wide body kit not only made the Silvia S15 more aggressive, but allowed JIC to fit their own J-Force wheels in a 17x8.5 / 18x9.5 fashion in the front and the rears. This S15 smokes up Hankook Z212 tires on the track. Up front a BN Sports vented hood helps eliminate heat buildup in the engine bay while a prototype JIC rear wing is being tested to see its impact on the chassis.
Suspension wise JIC Magic reached into their catalog and called out every product imaginable. Their FLT-A2 coilovers are the core while every adjustable piece known to Silvia mankind has always been installed: tie rods, rear toe control arms, rear traction rods, pillow tension rods, rear adjustable upper arm. Stoptech brakes allow this car to perform sideways or gripping in a time attack.

In the interior a full custom roll cage keeps the driver safe while JIC buckets give them a place to feel comfortable while doing their business. OMP harnesses keeps them nice and secure while a series of DEFi gauges keeps them informed.

You all have probably seen this work of art in action, and we can’t wait to see what JIC will be producing next year!

WE RECOMMEND
Hamann styling in combination with Shoreline Motoring makes this X3 an epic production
Bomex has become notorious on the stateside for their Engrish motto, but that didn't bother this S13
Though the EP3 wasn't received with lots of love in our industry, several tuners still made it their own passion
Individual Throttle Bodies...check, built B series...check, high horsepower...oh yeah!
