In the world of racing in these days you will find a wide mix of cars competing. Drag racing, SCCA, and Time Attack you will find RWD, FWD, and AWD cars at Pro Level all the way down to the grass roots level. AWD has created itself a love/hate relationship it; those with it love it and those that don’t love to beat it. Most people say once you go AWD you never go back, don’t know about that but this 2004 Evolution 8 GSR will start to get you thinking that way. Mitsubishi had a great following with the 1st gen Eclipse and the 2nd gen Eclipse with tuners all over creating big power and making it go either straight or a monster in the turns. Most would say that Mitsubishi lost its connection with tuners in the next two generations of Eclipse’s but gained it back 10-fold with the release of the Evolution to the states. In Salt Lake City no part was over looked in what has been dubbed “The Voltex Evo.”

Being based in Salt Lake City, home to the Larry Miller Motorsport Park, there is no question about the purpose this car has in the racing scene. Although the car maintains it daily driver ability it has slew of parts to make it a Time Attack competitor. Just the stance and looks of this car will make even your everyday car junkie break his neck from trying to turn it while walking by the car. The main stand point on the body is the Voltex Widebody kit from front to back. This aggressive kit really gives the car that appeal to keep you wondering of many laps it would put on you on the track. To complete the kit the rear of the car features a Voltex Rear Diffuser along with a Seibon C/F Trunk. The rest of the car wanted over looked either, also featuring a Seibon TS 2 Carbon hood, Seibon Vortex Generator, Seibon Headlight Duct, motorized Gararado Mirrors, and a REX Speed Evo 9 Carbon Heat Shield. To really set the looks of the Evo off, the car is rolling the streets on Enkei NT03’s 18x10.5 wrapped in 275/35 Nexens. When it comes to track time the Evo is switched over to Enkei RPF1’s 18x10.5 wrapped in 265/40 BFG RA1.

Now this Evo certainly has the looks of a fast time attack car and it also has to power to back up the looks. While it still is rocking the stock bottom end the head contains BC 272 Cams, BC Springs and Retainers, and ARP Head Studs. The real power maker for the car is the ATP Garrett 35R Turbo, to help this turbo perform at its full potential the Evo JMF Intake Manifold and a Buschur Ported Exhaust Manifold. To keep the air moving up front is mounted a Greddy Spec R Intercooler using Greddy piping kit to connect it all, and then pushing the air out is a Garage HRS 3” Turbo Back Exhaust. To keep the motor cool is a Koyo Radiator using Samco Radiator Hoses. AEM can be found to make sure the motor keeps running strong and everything is tuned to its full power.

Now the Voltex Evo is just not made to go straight but packs a punch when in the turns. Using the BC 32 Way Adjustable Coilovers the Evo will turn like its on rails. Also aiding in the turning of the car is a GT Spec Frame Bracket, Perrin End Links, and Hot Chics Rear Sway Bar. With the Evolutions coming with Brembos from the factory this track car still rocks the stock brake set up for now. Holding the driver in the seat so he is slide around mid corner is a ton of goodies. Holding the rear end down is a pair of NRG Carbon Fiber Bucket seats with Takata Harnesses strapping in the driver. Along with the harness the Evo also sports Takata Pedals and shift knob. Holding the Harness in place along with stiffing up the Evo is a safety 21 7 Point Black Cage. To make sure the drive knows what is going with the car inside you will find on the steering column a Perrin Gauge Cluster holding in a Defi Blue Boost and EGT Gauge. Also on the inside you will spy an AEM Uego to keep the driver in the loop on what the car is doing.

So with this car you can see why people either love or hate AWD. Look for this car to be tearing the corners up at Larry Miller Motorsport park in the near future.
