It’s been over a decade since Honda introduced a vehicle that no one would’ve thought would change and revolutionize the import scene. Even still to this day, the infamous 92-95 Civic hatchback, also known as the EG, has been a favorite among all fellow enthusiasts. We have seen over the years many different ways people have modified this specific chassis: whether it be an all show car, full out drag car, or just your plain ordinary daily street driven warrior, this goes to show how popular the EG is. The EG is also a base platform for those that are the hardcore JDM enthusiast.
For those that are new to the scene, and aren’t aware of what JDM stands for, it was a term derived in the early years as Japanese Domestic Market. There were those that were so in love with the ways the Japanese modified their vehicles, that of course we wanted a taste of it. In the beginning it wasn’t easy to obtain the parts, or even know where to start. With that said the extreme enthusiasts here at All Version Motoring in Orlando, FL, decided to make that big step and started a trend that would forever change the import scene in Florida.
There were so many choices when I landed to the camp of All Version, but this EG stuck out like a sore thumb. It’s bright, redish/orange hue on its body with its combination of blue rollers had sexiness written all over it. If you were to see this vehicle in person, it would probably give you the same affect as seeing Jenna Jameson naked in your bed when you came home one day. Okay, maybe that was a bit exaggerated, but nonetheless this was a piece of work. The paint was so clean and immaculate, body so straight; you wouldn’t believe this chassis was over 10 years old.
Well I decided to find out who owned this beast, and of course without a doubt it was the head magician over at All Version, Tong. This man has been known for his remarkable ECU programming, powerful all motor setups, and wrenching away in the wee hours of the night. He works from 9-7 at All Version, then from 7-11 at the restaurant across the way, and then goes doing his duty on vehicles from 11-all the way on to when he feels like stopping - which is usually till the sun comes up. And this process goes on for days, weeks, months out of the year.
I finally decided to go chat with him about the car, cause I had to know what was behind all the rumors I was hearing about. I was aware of the last surgery he had done to it, and the transplant netted him some low 12s on motor. However, there was definitely something not right with that joker grin on his face. We made our way over, still admiring the amazing sight of the vehicle when he decided to open her up. All that muttered out of my mouth was an “Uhhhhhhhhhhhh.” I knew in the back of my mind that someone was going to do this transplant, but I didn’t think it was done so soon.
The previous B18C heart was gone away and replaced with a K series. But this is no ordinary K20 of course. Tong couldn’t have just any K20; this was the heart out of the Integra Type R (better known as the RSX Type R motor in the states). On top of it all, this vehicle is equipped with the 6 speed gearbox. Who would’ve thought, a 6 speed EG would exist? Hell, who ever thought 200+hp would be so easily obtainable? There is always that unthinkable, unachievable scheme that these guys always seem to make look easy.
It wasn’t an easy mission for this transplant however. First of all, HASPORT had to be contacted for the motor mount conversion kit. This kit costs a pretty penny, but the ingenuity involved in this conversion kit is outstanding. Also needed was a custom shift linkage because the new shifter sat up high in the center console in the RSX. Power feeding mods have been limited at the moment due to the fact of the high cost in getting the motor into the car. But let’s be honest, who stops there? Your normal bolt ons have already been introduced to the K series.
What caught my eye even more were the authentic and rare shoes this girl wears. Dori II in a 15x7.5 size with Trampio 195/50/15 rubber finishes the combo nicely. The stiff stuff includes a set of Skunk2 coilovers mated on Koni Adjustable shocks. The entire chassis is stiffened up with Skunk2 strut tower bars and tie bars.
