This isn’t the first time we’ve come across a K-series swapped hatchback. The truth is more and more people are indulging themselves in this luxury. And who can blame them? While Jesse Vaughn was serving our country over in Iraq, he would browse eBay on his time off in hopes of finding himself something to play with when he got back to the States. He finally found himself an EG hatch that had a caved in rear quarter panel and door. While in Iraq he spent his spare time buying parts and storing them for the beat up car.

As soon as Vaughn got home, he tore apart the car and spent the next few months getting it to where it is today. He has done pretty much every aspect of the car himself except for the cage - so let’s take a closer look at Jesse’s hard work and what has paid off for him. Under the hood, Vaughn shoe horned in a JDM K20A swap with a 6 speed transmission. Utilizing none other than HASports’ mounts to get the motor to fit perfectly, Jesse also ordered a header from HASport. A Magnaflow 3" race muffler completes the exhaust side of things. Bringing out all the power of the K series is a Hondata K-Pro ECU and R Crew harness. Fuel is plentiful in this K series setup with a set of RC 440cc injectors on an AEM fuel rail and a Walbro 255lph fuel pump. Getting all the power to the ground is an Exedy stage 2 clutch.

On the exterior, the quarter windows have been swapped out for Lexan pieces freeing up plenty of weight. A Wings West RS lip kit gives the EG a cleaner look, accenting the natural body lines some more. With some JDM EG6 headlights, corners, sidemarkers and rear wing installed the hatchback got a fresh coat of Galapagos green paint from the 2002 Honda Element. Lastly a carbon fiber hood was installed to match the Black Racing Competition wheels.
Suspension on the EG comes mostly from the Integra Type-R and GSR counterparts. Integra Type-R spec Cusco coilovers slams the EG to the ground when desired, while Skunk2 upper control arms help keeps the camber in check. Energy Suspension bushings ensure everything is nice and tight. The interior roll cage was designed and installed by Purple Haze Racing. Jesse enjoys the comforts of his EG through a Buddy Club racing seat and Corbeau harness. An ATC steering wheel replaced the old stock unit along with an S2000 titanium shift knob to remind Jesse he’s in a 6-speed now.

We’re glad Jesse was able to make it back from Iraq safely so he could build one real clean EG for us all to enjoy.
