To swap or not to swap? X2Board

Almost every OEM has their flagship engine, and they make cars that have this beast as well as a similar looking cars that weren't blessed with the 2JZ-GTE /B-16A/ 4G63T/ SR20DET/ RB26DET/ 13BREW/ EJ20 etc.. etc..

Since all the necessary parts for transfoming a tame streetcar into its pavement pounding brother, do you agree with a total swap to the OEM powerhouse or upgrading the stock engine with the best parts available is a better deal?

The way I see it, if your looking for serious horsepower, get a shortblock and buy all new parts and build it PROPERLY even if it takes you a coupla years to do, while keeping your stock engine in the car and / or doing your ICE / Bodykit etc..

Some may say that the 4G and SR and 2JZ comes with very robust or even factory forged internals but if you're planning on building some serious HP and have it there for the long haul, it's better to get a set of aftermarket rods + pistons and have the pistons friction coated as well...& go on from there (titanium valves and retainers, roller cams or whatever else your engine needs)

this is just how I feel about it

Lets hear your views!

sr20's and 2j's dont come with forged pistons.... 2'js are very very strong thought, sr20's are a puss motor for top end power but deliver decent touque...

only engins that make power easily are rb26, rb25, 2j,13b and 20b

i know you people of the USA have been given shit to work with from japan cause they dont trust your tuning capability so it makes it hard to get decent cars out there. but good luck

I think it really depends on the application and overall goals. Before I had the MINI I was into DSMs and really a stock 4G63 bottom end is probably all I'd ever need in a street-car. If it were a dedicated track car that might be different. I think a lot of people set off with overly ambitious goals and make poor choices in upgrades early on in a project as a result.
